The Holidays approach.... here they come a caroling in all their glory!!!!
Ok, for the one person that reads this... and he complains that it is not updated enough... that is because I usually don't have that much time in the world, a new update.... this is going to be a sort of rant with facts... most of my rants are just me ranting and not knowing whether or not I have complete or true facts or even caring if I do.. I just want to rant... This one is going to have some truth to it... so enjoy...
Now before I begin this let me just state for the record... I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! Love it beyond belief...the music, the decorations, the food, the chance to make more people happy on the Hill with the things we do during the holiday season, and the chance to tell my friends and family just how much I love them even more than other times through out the year... I have an issue that needs to be addressed with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.. and here it is:
Christmas comes earlier and earlier every year.... what I mean by this is that it still is on Dec. 25 on the calendar, but to the retail stores, ie... Wal-Mart, Sears, J.C Penny's etc... it is Christmas time starting the day after Labor Day. I am sorry...LABOR DAY for petesake... that is ridiculous... retailers are not going to get me to start my Christmas shopping any sooner, than they always do if they bring their stuff out in September, than if they brought it out the day after Thanksgiving. Let me give you an example.. I was in Wal-Mart on Labor Day buying charcoal for the bar-b-que that I was having with my roomate and his dad. As I got into the garden center area of the store, I noticed, out of the corner of my eye...something shiny..like a Christmas ornament, and I looked around and started seeing Christmas trees and ornaments and lights being put out on the shelves... remember this is LABOR DAY..SEPTEMBER 3. The employees just started bringing out the Christmas that morning.
How wrong is this? Wrong I say... Wrong... you don't bring Christmas out in April?
One more example, I was out to dinner with my roommate the other week, and it is still October, middle of... and I was in the mall in Concord, CA and I had this strange look on my face, like what is wrong with this picture look... and he asked what was wrong... and I told him that in the mirror on a wall, I was seeing Christmas decorations, in a place I shouldn't have... and he turned and saw the same thing. After dinner, we went walking in the mall and much to our surprise, the ENTIRE mall was decorated for Christmas... EVEN SANTA'S CASTLE WAS UP...Santa wasn't here yet, he is still at the North Pole, making toys.. but still. They are the only mall in the area, that is COMPLETELY decorated... that is just wrong!!!! I have decided to BOYCOTT that mall until after Thanksgiving.
I think that as a people, we have trained the retailers, or they have trained us to completely skip over a great holiday!! Thanksgiving... I always ask people, when they talk about the holidays, Have we forgotten about Thanksgiving?? Yes, we have. We now go from give me give me of Halloween, to give me, give me of Christmas... that is a whole different blog... to come...
That is my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
